Color Inspiration

Decorating can be accomplished by many different means. It may be the result of an inspirational element - quilts, pillows, vacation destinations, artwork and perhaps even flowers from the garden may inspire you.

Paper Lanterns

These Colorful Paper Lanterns are so imaginative and are a really fun point of Inspiration!

Our first step was to create a scheme that incorporated all the different elements that were to be used in the new spaces – paint, flooring, draperies, etc. All the colors were selected around the colorful Paper Lanterns!

It was easy to select fun fabrics, upholstery and artwork because our inspiration piece guided us along the way.

Warm Copper Tone

This Living Room incorporates the warm copper tone very beautifully… notice  the use of White woodwork that helps to keep the color looking crisp.

Sunny Nursery

In the Nursery, it was important to have a color that was very cheerful, since this room does not receive a great deal of light.

We wanted it to have that really sunny feeling… and yellow does the job perfectly.

Soothing Blue

In the Master Bedroom…we wanted this room to be more soothing… but still in keeping with the color feeling in the rest of her home.

An excellent choice was blue. It feels cool, but has the same snappy character because it was selected from the lantern colors.

When we look at all the color selections together… it all starts to make sense. A deep color, a mid-tone color and a light color… all from the same inspiration piece – paper lanterns!

Notice again that crisp white woodwork helps keep colors distinct from one another… it is a nice way to visually break color from one area to another.

We do recognize, that for some, it is difficult to know what your style may be… we have a suggestion:

Look through design magazines… each time you find a room or decorating treatment that you like, tear out the page and keep it in a file. You may not know why you like it… you just do…After you accumulate 20, 30 or 40 pictures… spread them all out and try to determine what they have in common. You will be amazed how these pictures will start to tell you about yourself and your style!

Another great way to get color ideas are from our color collection cards.  Our newest collection – Design by Nine – shows how you can use just nine colors to decorate an entire home.  Each room will still have a personality all its own, while keeping a color “flow” throughout the house.
